The need for surveillance in all aspects of work and life is growing. 4D Products is helping support new products and developments in this sector by working with global experts at Wireless CCTV.
Wireless CCTV (WCCTV) manufactures and supplies portable, rapid deployment video monitoring solutions worldwide.
The company’s products need to be innovative, robust and to be able to withstand some of the most arduous conditions in the world. Cameras are used in places like oil refineries in Saudi Arabia, for event crowd controlin the US and for border controls in remote regions. Equipment need to be adaptable to contain the latest electronic surveillance technology, with great design built in, so WCCTV can stay one step ahead of its competition.
The cameras and their associated systems are designed and assembled in Rochdale in the UK, where WCCTV’s design department is based, headed by New Product Design Manager, Ian Ramsdale. Ian knew he needed a second opinion and design input with product casings. He sought and selected design specialists 4D Products based near Warrington after hearing about their experience and how they could help.
4D Products was asked by WCCTV to help supplement their own design skills with specific expertise on mechanical product design, materials and casing designs for their latest products.
4D Products started by developing a range of concept sketches, exploring different visual approaches and alternative manufacturing material options. After reviewing the designs, a combination of injection moulding and metal was selected. Casings need to be waterproof, robust and stop insect ingression. The internal electronic componentry was complex and needed to fit tightly into the housing. Airflow was a key consideration for cooling, easier lid access was needed and the cost per unit reduced if possible.Also, WCCTV wanted to introduce new materials to enable volume sales of their new products and reduce production cost.
Ian Ramsdale, New Product Design Manager at WCCTV said: “The designs that 4D Products came up with met all our requirements and more. They help us stay ahead of our competitors and we have been able to save 50% on casing costs. In addition, we have a product ready for volume sales which is easier to use out in the field.”
