The UK’s tech talent shortage may stunt the sector’s expansion according to experts. There were more than two million UK job vacancies in tech last year – more than any other labour area – but an industry coalition says nearly 12 million workers lack essential digital skills.
Commenting on this, Mark Yeeles, VP Industrial Automation UK&I at Schneider Electric, said: “I believe that many students are energised by the idea of working in technology, but struggle to navigate the quite competitive and crowded marketplace.
There is no doubt that the government plays a critical role in establishing the framework for educational options, but as an employer, it’s our responsibility to motivate young people and excite them about the prospects available to them.
We must build those links with young people during the early days of their education journey. Starting the conversation now and answering any questions young people have will open doors and minds to the wide variety of roles available.”
