Mouser Electronics, Inc., the global authorized distributor with the newest semiconductors and electronic components, is now stocking the BNO055 Intelligent 9-Axis Absolute Orientation Sensor from Bosch Sensortec. This System in Package (SiP) solution integrates a 32-bit ARM® Cortex M0+ microcontroller running Bosch Sensortec sensor fusion software, along with three sensors – a triaxial 14-bit accelerometer, a triaxial 16-bit gyroscope with a range of ±2,000 degrees per second and a triaxial geomagnetic sensor – all in one miniature package. The integrated sensor fusion software helps developers reduce development costs and time, while the integrated components in one package leads to simplified system integration and faster time to market.

The Bosch Sensortec BNO055 Intelligent 9-Axis Absolute Orientation Sensor, available from Mouser Electronics, is the first in a new family of Application-Specific Sensor Nodes (ASSN). The device implements an intelligent 9-axis “Absolute Orientation Sensor”, which includes sensors and sensor fusion in a single, System in Package (SiP) solution. An integral part of the BNO055 product offering is the BSX3.0 FusionLib software, which ensures optimal system performance and eliminates the need for third-party software. The hardware and software of the BNO055 enables high performance with low power consumption, and helps free developers from the complexities of multivendor solutions or additional software requirements.

Other features of the BNO055 include fast background calibration of all sensors and the calibration monitor while in use, enhanced magnetic distortion detection and suppression, built-in group delay compensation for real-time motion tracking, gyroscope drift cancellation, and support for multiple power modes and multiple operating modes (i.e. for 6-axis-based applications, such as inertial measurement units). The BNO055 is also equipped with digital bi-directional I2C and UART interfaces. The I2C interface can be programmed to run with the HID- I2C protocol, turning the BNO055 into a plug-and-play sensor hub solution – perfect for devices running the Windows 8.0 or 8.1 operating system.

The Bosch Sensortec’s BNO055 Intelligent 9-Axis Absolute Orientation Sensor is ideally suited for augmented reality, immersive gaming, personal health and fitness, indoor navigation and any other sensor-based applications requiring context awareness. The BNO055 is also supported by a multi-function development tool (262-0330.SBO.184), also available through Mouser Electronics.
