Directors of the tube bending machine manufacturer Unison have received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise from The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Barry Dodd.

Unison exports around 70% of its machinery to manufacturers around the world, located in Europe, North America, Africa and Australasia.

Barry Dodd commended the sustained three-year record of export growth that led to Unison winning the award, and stressed how important companies like Unison are to the UK economy.

The award scroll and a crystal bowl to mark the achievement were handed over during Unison’s annual open house event. Colin Sirett, head of research and technology at Airbus UK, a guest of honour at the ceremony, noted that the advanced machinery provided by companies like Unison underpins the work of major manufacturers like Airbus. He also applauded Unison for the leading role it is playing in the current establishment of a University Technical College in Scarborough.
