At Severn Trent Water’s sewage treatment works in Newthorpe, Nottinghamshire, the water supplier had been experiencing problems with the reliability of its pump gearboxes. These were causing significant downtime at the plant and de-ragging the pump was problematic due to the small access port which provided limited access.

To solve the problem, NOV Mono supplied its Chroma PC pump which was directly interchangeable with the existing pump. This is pumping digested sludge to the site’s centrifuges for thickening.

Chroma is an industrial progessing cavity pump. With no pipework or electrical modifications required, this has full size access ports as standard to enable easy de-ragging of the pump, without having to remove the pipework. It is also designed to meet all Water Plc and WIMES industry standards, and is available in cast iron and 316 stainless steel casing parts, with wetted parts available in tool steel or 316 stainless steel. The pump comes complete with a Varmeca integrated Inverter drive.

Regional maintenance advisor at Newthorpe STW, Andy Berry, said: “The NOV Mono Chroma provided us with an effective solution. As well as benefiting from improved control over the process with a variable speed drive, de-ragging is much easier and we can take advantage of excellent spares lead times.”
