Upgraded range of housings for longer bearing life, simplified installation and easier maintenance

Luton, United Kingdom: 3 May 2018: SKF has introduced a number of enhancements to its popular and proven SNL split pillow block bearing housings. The new SNL range retains all the performance benefits of its predecessors, while offering significant usability improvements.

Effective lubrication has been the focus of many of those improvements. Markings cast into the housings now indicate the proper grease level for an initial 20 or 40 percent lubricant fill. The relubrication port has been offset from the centre of the shaft axis, aiding the flow of grease into the housing, and an integrated flange guides grease from the fitting directly to bearing, reducing wasted lubricant. A drilled, tapped and plugged grease evacuation hole on the side of the housing is an option, and a comprehensive range of sealing options is also available.

To aid installation and alignment, the bases of the SNL housings feature a 45-degree chamfer and cast-in lines indicating the centre of the bearing seat and the housing bore axis. Model number designations are now more clearly marked, making it easy to identify the appropriate part, and individual serial numbers are marked on both the base and cap of the housing to prevent mismatches.

The use of high-grade cast iron materials has allowed SKF to make the new housings lighter, which simplifies handling during installation and maintenance, and cuts freight costs. SNL housings are available to suit bearing outer diameters from 20mm to 400mm. A simplified model designation scheme makes it quick and easy for users to select the appropriate SNL unit for their needs.

Upgraded SNL housings have the same built-in dimensions and are fully interchangeable with the current SE housings, together with other ISO: 113:2010 compliant housings such as SNA and SNH.
