Bearing specialist igus has launched a new video that demonstrates the potential weight savings design engineers can achieve by simply switching to igus drylin linear bearings. By replacing a typical steel shaft and steel linear bearing with an igus RJMP bearing and hollow aluminium shaft, the weight reduction of the system can be as much as 85 per cent.

igus drylin linear bearings also offer a range of other advantages for  engineers; for example, the bearings are self-lubricating thus allowing the removal of external lubricants in the system, which can attract contaminants and cause increased friction on the shaft. Additionally, as the drylin RJMP bearings are made of a corrosion-resistant tribopolymer that has a temperature range of -20 to +60°C, they are suitable for a range of different demanding environments and applications.
