In response to demands for further miniaturisation, Hypertac has launched the C128 Series of high reliability, 128 way two contact row PCB connectors. These are suitable for the harsh environments experienced in defence, military communications, and test and measurement applications – it has already proved suitable for airborne radar platforms.

Enhancing its existing range of high performance PCB connectors that use the Hyperboloid contact, the company has introduced a new proprietary Tortac socket  contact technology, enabling a reduced contact to contact pitch of only 1.27mm. This maintains the characteristics exhibited by the standard Hyperboloid contact: very low fretting corrosion and superior signal continuity integrity under high shock and vibration levels are achieved in a much smaller contact diameter. According to the company, the high contact density provided by the Tortac contacts also offers good performance in high data rate environments.

Housed within a nickel plated aluminium shell, 128 contacts are now able to be accommodated on only two rows arranged in a square grid pattern on a 1.27mm pitch, compliant with the requirements of MIL DTL 55302 sheets 120 and 121.

Features of the connectors include resistance to salt spray, shock and vibration over the full military temperature range; a low stacking height; low insertion force; lightweight characteristics; and they are reverse gendered.
