Mouser Electronics, a global distributor of semiconductors and electronic components, has announced its sponsorship of the China Racing Formula-E Team. The team will compete in the international 2014/15 Formula E racing series, built around all-electric cars, starting September 13th in Beijing.

Mouser is sponsoring the China Racing Formula-E Team in partnership with its valued partners Molex and Vishay Intertechnology.

Formula E is a new FIA global racing series featuring cars powered exclusively by electric energy. The FIA stands for the Federation International de L’Automobile, which is the governing body for world motor sports. Formula E represents a vision for the future of the motor sports industry over the coming decades, serving as a framework for R&D around the electric vehicle, accelerating general interest in these cars and promoting sustainability, a Team China spokesman said.

Team China Racing is the first national racing team authorised by the Ministry of Sports of China. Team China has participated in several international racing series and represents China’s highest motorsport level. Chinese racing sensation Ho-Pin Tung, a veteran of the international auto racing circuit, will be driving the Mouser-sponsored Spark-Renault SRT_01E which can go 0 -60 in 3 seconds and has a top speed of 150 mph. He will be the only local Chinese driver in the season opener in Beijing.

“Electric car technology undoubtedly will play a large role in the future, and we here at Mouser and our Electronic Industry partners are very pleased to be a part of this endeavor,” said Todd McAtee, Mouser vice president of business development. Since every advanced, sophisticated component that goes into a race car is all about precision and gaining a performance edge out on the track, auto racing is the perfect vehicle to build top-of-mind awareness for Mouser and its industry-leading partners. “It’s particularly exciting for us that these new all-electric race cars are paving the way for future automotive technologies”, McAtee added.

The global distributor is no stranger to auto racing, having sponsored the 2013 KV Racing Technology #11 IZOD IndyCar Series team that won the Indianapolis 500. Mouser first sponsored auto racing in 2011 as a way to communicate its performance-driven business model and promote the newest technologies and how they affect the high-tech world of auto racing.  After the kick-off race in Beijing, the international Formula-E series travels to: Malaysia, Oct. 18th; Brazil, Nov. 15th; Uruguay, Dec. 13th;  Argentina, Jan. 10th; USA, Feb. 14th and March 14th; Monaco, May 9th; Germany, May 30th; and the UK on June 27th.
