The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) is organising a HIP Seminar focussing on the use of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) to improve safety and innovation in the offshore sector. The annual EuroHIP Seminar (EuroHIP is the name of the EPMA’s Sectoral Group that represents the HIP sector) will take place in Oslo, Norway 10-11 March 2020 at the Energy Valley (Research Center).
Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) technology has been used for many years in the Oil & Gas industry, to close porosity in cast products and to produce near net shape components from metal powders. More recently, additive manufacturing is entering this space, and HIP is a vital component of the supply chain to ensure material performance for the most critical applications. The two-day seminar will provide a presentation programme consisting of guest speakers from CEIT, DNV-GL, Liberty Powder Metals, Metal Technology Co. Ltd, Rolls-Royce, Rolls-Royce Submarine, Saar, Total E&P, Quintus and the University of Birmingham, all of whom have extensive knowledge in and of the HIP Offshore Sector and will be on hand to develop dialogue around improving offshore technology and safety. A site visit of DNV-GL will conclude the programme.

He went onto add ‘Exciting developments are starting to come to fruition, with the combination of HIP & AM, which will make for an exciting synergy between the two sectors.’
