For the uninitiated, selecting and using adhesives in the design or the manufacturing of a product can be a daunting prospect. How are you supposed to know which one is the most suitable for your application. Here we examine the benefits of different adhesive types.

Ultra violet light curing (UV) adhesives are just one example of how a simple adhesive chemistry can bring huge benefits to a manufacturing process.

UV light curing adhesives are ‘’cure on demand’’ adhesives. They remain completely inert and in a liquid state until they are subjected to controlled and concentrated UV light. These adhesives will bond substrates in a matter of seconds and are ideal for high production rates. They are used in many different applications, including the manufacture of disposable medical devices, electronics bonding and sealing, optical lens bonding, fibre optic filament splicing, potting of electronic devices, sealing of switches and relays etc. They are also widely used in glass and acrylic furniture manufacture, as well as decorative glass bonding, display case construction, signmaking and the production of trophies to name just a few applications! They are extremely versatile products, ideally suited to both high volume production outputs as well as ‘one off’ projects.

Eurobond Adhesives Ltd have been supplying the Vitralit® range of UV adhesives and coatings produced by world leading adhesives manufacturer Panacol, for over 35 years. In addition, we are distributors for Honle AG, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of UV light systems.

Electrically Conductive Adhesives  For Electronics Applications.

Electrically conductive adhesives have many advantages over conventional soldering processes. Conductive adhesives are the perfect solution for making electrical contacts on temperature-sensitive substrates, as their curing temperature is below soldering temperature. In addition the adhesives are much more flexible than solder and are therefore better able to withstand, movement, thermal cycling, vibration etc.

There are two types of electrically conductive adhesives: isotropic and anisotropic. Isotropic conductive adhesives (ICA) are electrically conductive in all directions. They are used in applications such as chip contacting and bonding electrically conductive SMDs.Anisotropic conductive adhesives (ACA) contain special conductive particles in the µm range, which conduct electricity only in one direction. These adhesives are used, for example, in many sensitive structures on circuit boards, such as LCD connections or contacting flexible PCBs, or for bonding antenna structures on RFIDs.

With the Elecolit® range of conductive adhesives we offer a broad spectrum of single-component adhesives that can be simply applied with dispensers or jets or screen-printed, and two-component products that cure at room temperature and have a long shelf life.

Structural Adhesives and Tapes

Structural bonding as an alternative to mechanical fixing or welding has become increasingly popular amongst sheet metal fabricators, construction and specialist architectural metalworking companies in recent years. Adhesives give the modern designer far greater flexibility, allowing them to create products with more aesthetic  appearance that you just cannot achieve by traditional riveting, welding or mechanical fixing methods.

Our Penloc® range of toughened acrylic structural adhesives are fast curing, resistant to moisture, impact, shock and vibration and have been proven in the most demanding of industrial environments. They are trusted by literally thousands of customers throughout Europe.

Penloc® will bond almost any material in 5 minutes, including most metals, plastics, composites, carbon fibre, glass, wood, stone, granite, ceramic and many other different materials. Penloc® HP for example, is a high performance adhesive and can withstand temperatures of around minus 55°C to plus 180°C. Penloc® adhesive is ideal for bonding/fabricating decorative architectural metalwork, balustrades, stainless steel cooker hoods, lift car and escalator fabrication or refurbishment. It is also ideal for use on decorative finished materials such as brushed stainless steel or brushed aluminium. Typical tensile shear strength values of 276 Kg/cm² can be achieved.

MS Polymer Flexible Adhesives.

These are strong and resilient flexible adhesives that cure by atmospheric and surface moisture present on the substrate and will bond almost any material combination. They can be used in many different applications including industrial prefabricated structures, portable buildings, dwellings, containers, caravans, boats and vehicle bodies. They can be used for other industrial applications such as bonding and sealing of steel floor plates, rubbing strips, skylights, heavy profiles, lap seams, bonding and sealing for horizontal joints and connections to floors/ceilings, wooden and steel casings and all stud applications etc. Our range includes ‘Food Safe’ and ‘Fire Resistant’ grades.
