According to Bernstein, Railtex 2013, which took place earlier this month, was one of the best shows it has ever attended – in terms of both the volume and quality of leads generated.

The company’s latest product development for the Rail industry, ‘Safe Gate’, was particularly popular. ‘Safe Gate’ uses a solenoid locking switch (SLK) and has been specifically designed to make rural user operated crossings safer. Level crossing safety remains at the top of the industry’s agenda – according to the BBC, despite high-profile communication campaigns; there were still 9 deaths on the UK’s rail network last year as a direct result of people trying to cross level crossings both on foot and in vehicles.

Bernstein showcased the Safety Gate using a working prototype to demonstrate the switch’s capabilities and the implications it could have for the rail industry. It also highlighted other products that have been specifically designed for both train-borne and trackside rail applications including dual door monitoring, trackside enclosures, blind spot safety sensors, platform screen doors, ventilated enclosures and TPWS.

A ‘rail version’ of Bernstein’s ‘quiz’ was displayed using a digital screen encased in a submerged IP68 premium enclosure. Entrants were asked to answer five questions about Bernstein’s products and services and all correct entries were entered into a prize draw. The lucky winners of the Railtex quiz were David Frame, who won the first prize of an iPod Touch, and runners-up Sian Phelps & Nathan Spencer who both bagged themselves an iPod Shuffle.

Marketing executive, Mat Emms, said: “This year’s show was exceptionally well organised – we had a constant flow of people throughout the day, right up until the last minute! Railtex 2011 generated quite a bit of business for us and early signs suggest that this year’s show will be even better.”
