ABB has been presented with the EEF North West Region Green and Growth Award by sponsor ENER-G.

David Ost, EEF North West regional director, said: “Manufacturing is vital to economic recovery and companies like ABB are setting the benchmark for success. They are leading the way by developing technologies which address the green agenda and provide substantial business results to customers. Congratulations to their entire team on this impressive success.”

ABB used technical ingenuity to persuade customers to adopt energy saving measures for motor-driven processes, developing an energy appraisal and savings illustration app that could help them reduce their carbon footprint and cut electricity bills.

The company’s Energy Efficiency Plan was developed to overcome market reluctance to try variable-speed drives, which can reduce the energy used by motors by 20 percent on average.

Through its nationwide team of assessment engineers, ABB is now selling more drives to more industries as a result of its energy appraisals, reflected in a 43% increase in business during the period 2011-2012.

ABB will go forward to compete against other regional winners from across the UK in EEF’s National Awards final on 31 January 2012 in London.
