DYMACO specialise in the design and production of Inspection, Testing and Assembly Systems, helping industries from all over the world be competitive in a vast array of applications.

Their DM401 Dimensional Measuring system is a very compact and flexible workstation for automated dimensional measuring of headlamps in the Automotive Industry.

Based on the CAD data of the lamp, specific measurement points are defined for initial calibration. The lamp is picked from the production line and placed inside the inspection machine onto a positioning system with six motion axes. As the metrology is done automatically according to the calibration data, the sample is adjusted inside the machine to a defined position. The positioning is done with high precision in the micron-range and very fast in all degrees of freedom for high throughput rates.

For this kind of motion, the DM401 employs a parallel kinematic Hexapod robot from Physik Instrumente (PI). The customisable Hexapod H-820 provides precision with identical dynamic behaviours in all axes, low moving net mass and high stiffness.

The use of Hexapod systems allows for flexibility for a large variety of samples of in-line automation systems by minimising the required space for motion robotics. In a parallel-kinematic multi-axis system, all actuators act directly on a single moving platform. This means that all axes can be designed with identical dynamic properties, thus reducing the moved mass considerably. Hexapods are used for moving, aligning and precision positioning loads in all six degrees of freedom, i.e., three linear and three rotational axes.

The 6-axis Hexapod platform excels in its compact design, reliability, simplicity, and easy integration into the customers own technology platform. When matched with the high degree of accuracy and high speed of the DM401 Series, this combination makes for the ideal choice for automating inspection applications.
